Author's Commentary: "More Lies in Darkness"

This visit to the jacks in the belt also brings a character or two (or perhaps more) from my Lifeboat storyworld. It's fitting that a medical mystery brought her to space.

My thinking in making the belt "the first space settlement" as opposed to the Moon or Mars is that space is such a harsh environment, I suspect there will need to be a strong commercial component for a place to be continuously occupied by people. I'd definitely accept the Moon's proximity as another good reason for being first. But gold rush of precious metals also seems like a good reason to live somewhere. We'll see.

In any case, both a space settlement and a murder mystery make for a good story. I hope you enjoy this one!
